Wenger: Pires backing
Robert Pires has urged the French Football Federation (FFF) to appoint Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as national team coach.
Raymond Domenech is currently in charge of Les Bleus, but is under increasing pressure following a poor showing at Euro 2008 and a disappointing start to their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The country's latest setback came on Saturday night when they were forced to battle back from 2-0 down for a point against Romania in Group 7.
Villarreal midfielder Pires, who has not represented France since 2004, worked with Wenger during his six years at Arsenal, and has spoken highly of his former boss.
Solely to blame
The 34-year-old said: "Arsene Wenger is a gentleman and his qualities would have a positive effect on the French national side.
"He is a class act. Of course, he is Arsenal's manager, but you never know what could happen. If money is made available by the French FA then anything is possible.
"The key is knowing whether he has the desire to leave London.
"Right now I am very worried about what the future holds for France. I don't want Domenech to stay in the job.
"France's young players no longer have any respect for their seniors and the coach is solely to blame."
Backing
Thierry Henry, meanwhile, has urged the FFF to voice its 100 per cent backing for Domenech, with an announcement on his future expected on Wednesday.
The Barcelona forward said: "There is a point when things need to be clear. We must end this debate. If the coach is confirmed, then he is confirmed.
"You can't confirm someone with conditions. If things were clear, it would be easier."
