The Swiss golden boy is one of the most consistent strikers in Europe, and his country's all time top goal scorer.
He has made over 50 appearances for Switzerland and passed Kubilay Turkyilmaz and Max Abbegglen's record of 34 international goals with a brace against Liechtenstein in a pre-tournament friendly.
He has led the line for his country for almost seven years and is a survivor from their Euro 2004 and 2006 World Cup campaigns.
His career began slowly when he failed to shine at FC Basle or FC Thun, but he began to find the target with unerring regularity while at Lucerne and continued to shine during a successful three-year spell with Servette.
Frei then moved on to French side Rennes in 2003 and was the top scorer in Ligue 1 during the 2004/05 campaign.
Having regularly broken the 20-goal mark during three seasons in France, Borussia Dortmund then splashed the cash to take him to Germany.
His fine form in front of goal has continued in the Bundesliga, and despite having his 2007/08 season disrupted by injury he will be one of the players to watch at Euro 2008.
