Degen is an experienced defender who has been part of the international fold for almost three years now.
His twin brother David is also a Swiss international, but missed out on the squad for the upcoming European Championship through injury.
Since making his debut back in 2005 Degen has quickly made the right full-back spot his own, and played every minute of his country's run to the last 16 of the 2006 World Cup.
He has spent the last three years playing his club football for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, but enjoyed considerable success in his homeland with FC Basle before securing a move to Germany.
A four-year spell at St Jakob Park saw him claim one Swiss Cup, an Alps Cup and three Swiss domestic league titles.
At 25-years-old he should be reaching his peak and will be hoping for a positive conclusion to a season which has been blighted by injuries and a disappointing mid-table finish for Dortmund.
Having snubbed a new contract in Germany at the end of the 2007/08 campaign he will also be looking to impress his new employers, Liverpool, as he is set to join the Reds on a free transfer on 1st July.
