Roman Shirokov is a player short on international experience but not talent having starred for Zenit Saint Petersburg this season.
The classy defender, who can also play midfield, only joined the Uefa Cup winners in January but has quickly made a name for himself with a series of assured displays.
Shirokov made his professional debut for FC Torpedo-ZIL Moskva in 2001 but having failed to make the mark in Russia's top flight, spells at lower league clubs FC Istra and FC Vidnoe followed.
FC Saturn Moskovskaya Oblast recognised the player's potential and in 2005 brought him back to Russia's top tier, but he lasted only a year there before switching to FC Rubin Kazan.
Again, though, Shirokov failed to settle and in 2007 was on the move again - this time to Khimki - where he excelled and caught the eye of Zenit in scoring seven goals in 27 games.
His Zenit career was hampered early on with a red card against Villarreal but at Eastlands, in the Uefa Cup final, his name was back on the team-sheet as he starred as Zenit saw off Rangers in Manchester.
