The 20-year-old only began his pro career at Sturm Graz in 2006 but just one year later earned his first call-up to the senior national side, where he has already made a lasting impact having struck twice in the 4-3 defeat by Holland.
Prodl, a talented defender, captained Austria's Under-20 side to the semi-finals of the 2007 World Cup in Canada and was later regarded as one of the outstanding players of the tournament.
His impressive performances for both club and country alerted the attention of Werder Bremen, who have signed him ahead of the next season.
