One of the new breed in this squad to have come through since Joachim Low was appointed national coach, Trochowski is another of Polish birth.
Hailing from Tczew, the 24-year-old has long been earmarked as a future international, and played for Germany's Under-20s in the 2003 World Youth Championship.
At that point, the former St Pauli man was at German giants Bayern Munich but he managed just 13 Bundesliga appearances in six years at the Olympic Stadium and only truly blossomed after joining Hamburg in 2005.
Indeed so impressive was he during his first two seasons in north Germany, the possibility of a return to Bayern was mooted, though Trochowski was quick to rule it out as he signed a new contract through until 2011.
The inventive attacking midfielder with a thunderbolt of a shot made his international debut against Georgia in 2006 but only really became a mainstay towards the end of the Euro 2008 qualification programme.
Having played just 13 minutes in the opening half of the campaign, Trochowski then featured in five successive games (including three starts) before finding himself back on the bench for the final clash with Wales.
