Perrotta made eight appearances for Italy in Euro 2008 qualifying and is undoubtedly one of coach Roberto Donadoni's key men as he can play a number of different midfield roles.
He is most closely assciated with being a box-to-box midfielder, but more recently has successfully played in behind a central striker for Roma while he has been deployed as a left winger on occasion for the national side.
The 30-year-old's determination, energy and teamwork have won him over 40 caps for his country and ensured he was part of the Italy side which won the World Cup in 2006.
Born in England, Perrotta came to prominence at unfancied Chievo as they took Serie A by storm in 2001 and after another two successful seasons there, he was snapped up by Roma.
We may see a different Perrotta in Austria and Switzerland, as he comes into the tournament having scored eight goals in 34 games for Roma, the highest tally of his career to date..
