The 31-year-old Sevilla goalkeeper has only received international recognition in recent years following a number of impressive seasons at Udinese.
He was a key member of the side which has established itself as a force in Serie A and qualified for the UEFA Cup with a fourth place finish in 2004-05.
He has made only two appearances for the national team, and his hopes of winning more caps have not been helped by a move to Spanish side Sevilla where he has been number two to Andres Palop.
However, coach Roberto Donadoni is a fan of the big goalkeeper and he is a more than able third choice.
