After heartbreak at the previous two tournaments Rafael van der Vaart will be looking to make an impact in Austria & Switzerland.
Van der Vaart featured prominently in qualifying for Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup - but he was only a peripheral figure in both tournaments.
After starting the opening game in Euro 2004 he was dropped and did not start another match. Then in the World Cup two-years later he was rested for the opening game with Serbia & Montenegro and he was unable to get back into the team thereafter.
Now van der Vaart has again been a prominent figure in the qualifiers, playing in six games and he is now almost certain to be at the heart of the midfield for Marco van Basten alongside former Ajax team-mate Wesley Sneijder.
The tournament will be a big one for van der Vaart because he is also likely to switch clubs this summer.
After making the shock decision to join Hamburg after leaving Ajax in 2005 - van der Vaart is again under the gaze of some of Europe's big hitters and he himself has admitted he wants to leave Germany.
Chelsea, Internazionale, Juventus and Valencia are amongst those ready to bid for talented midfielder who could have his pick of his clubs if he can help Holland to glory this summer.
