Holland's outstanding number one will be making his international swansong at Euro 2008.
The Manchester United keeper is now 37, but is performing as well as ever.
Van der Sar was a mainstay during Euro 2008 qualifying and conceded just two goals in his eight appearances.
Despite his years, van der Sar has a contract at United until 2009 and the chances are he could easily carry on for another year.
Should he maintain his place at United number one up to 2010, then he could very well look towards the World Cup in 2010.
Van der Sar, who began his career with Ajax, only joined United in 2005 and it reignited his domestic ambitions.
After leaving Juventus in 2001 he joined Fulham in a surprise move and had to endure four-years of relative struggle at Craven Cottage before Sir Alex Ferguson gave him the chance to end his playing days in style and he has grasped the opportunity with both hands.
